Try-outs for Fall 2011

Try-outs for the 2011-2012 Loftis Middle School Tennis Team will begin on July 25th. Try-outs will be on the Middle Valley tennis courts from 9:00-11:00 A.M. July 25th, July 26th and possibly July 27th. Students trying out should be present each day of try-outs. If you are interested in trying out you can pick up the forms outside Coach Seiler's room in the 6th grade hall (Room 212). In order to try-out you must have a doctor's physical dated after May 1st, 2011. Athletes who plan to try out for multiple sports during the school year will have their physical kept on file for the 2011-2012 school year and will not need to have additional physicals to try-out for other sports. All forms must be turned in before you will be allowed to try-out.

TIME: 1:45 ( ALL COUNTY PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN AT 1:45) TOURNAMENT WILL START AT 2:00 SHARP

COST: $2.00 PER ENRTY FOR THE 1ST DAY (Make your check to the City of Chattanooga Parks and Rec.)

(I will pay the two dollar fee for everybody)

LEAGUE FEES: $30.00 Only Hixson has paid ( Make your check to Brown Middle Tennis) this covers the12 trophies, 12 medals and Eddie a gift certificate $50.

MATCHES: 6 WIN BY 2 NO ADD: TIE BREAKER: 7 POINTS WIN BY 2

NEW BALLS: Bring a can for each entry, winning team will keep the unopened can for their next match the losing team or player will take the used can.

(I will provide a can of balls for each person)

COACHES: Please have your team members check the bracket table for their times to play. Please let them know we cannot go looking for them, I will have my loud voice again but this will be the last time. Please have your team and parents pick up there trash. Please inform your parents and students not to be loud while matches are going on. NO COACHING DURING A MATCH. If a student has a question during their match please have them come to one of the coaches/score table/ or have someone get one of us to help them out. Both coaches from both teams need to be present on any questions.

The tournament will begin at 2:00pm both days. Players should make arrangements to be checked out of school early on these days. If you are not present when they call your name you will be listed as a forfeit and the tournament will be over for you. You continue to play as long as you win.

I can get the same tennis uniforms as last year for the girls team. I will be glad to take care of placing the order, collecting the money, and distributing them to those who are interested in ordering them. They are $20 each and the sizes are all adult women’s x-small, small, and medium. They ran just a bit big but for those girls who may want to use them for a couple years they may want to get them just a little big anyway. Please have them make the checks payable to : Jeff Mercer. My number is 423-667-9776 if they want to call or text me with their order. They are in stock and we should have them within a couple days of placing the order. I would put a deadline of next Tuesday, August 24th to get their order in.

Due to the extreme heat Tennis Try-outs for today and tomorrow have been cancelled. I will be at Middle Valley today from 2:45-3:15 to collect forms (physical and grades). If you cannot be at Middle Valley today please send me an email with the students full name and grade he/she was in last year. I will collect forms Wednesday at school or at try-outs on Wednesday. Try-outs Wednesday and Thursday will be held at Middle Valley from 2:45-4:00. BRING WATER! Ask your students to listen to the announcements in case we have to cancel again.

Try-outs are scheduled to begin August 9th. Try-outs will start at 2:45 and will end at 4:00 each day. We should have a team picked by Wednesday August 11th. Try-outs and matches will all be held at Middle Valley Rec, next to the Recycle Center.

To try-out players need to have had a sports physical (the physical has to be after April 15th, 2010), also a parent information sheet with insurance info (these were given out in May, if you need one see me registration day...August 4th), and your 4th quarter report card.

Any student, 6th-8th grade, is eligible to try-out.

Next school year the tennis season will take place at the beginning of the school year, not the end. The season will conclude on September 24th. Any one interested in trying out will have to have a physical dated after May 1st, 2010. Information will be given out to upcoming 7th and 8th graders before the end of this school year.

The Ooltewah Middle Match scheduled for 4/13 has been moved back a day and will now be played on 4/12/10 (Monday--first day back from Spring Break). Loftis Girls tennis

With your $25 participation fee, the school provides a t-shirt for the tennis season but some of you have expressed interest in ordering tennis uniforms. Below is an example of a uniform that we can get for $19. They will be green with white trim and can be worn with black or white shorts/skorts.

There are new rules in place that all members of the team need to have the same shirt so if we are ALL interested in getting these, I will take care of ordering them. These would be yours to keep. They are available in adult women’s XS, S, M, L, and XL.

Please contact Jeff Mercer (423-667-9776) for more details and/or to express your interest in ordering these. Our first match is Tuesday March 16th.
